We promote regenerative agriculture as a pathway for restoring degraded ecosystems, strengthening climate resilience, improving food security, and enhancing rural livelihoods. Our approach integrates ecological restoration with commercially viable agricultural systems, enabling farmers to transition from subsistence production toward sustainable and market-oriented farming models.
Composting and Soil Restoration
S&M has established and operated large-scale composting facilities, including an 18-hectare composting and demonstration site in Ziway, where degraded land has been rehabilitated into productive agricultural and training areas. The company promotes organic soil fertility management through compost application, mulching, crop diversification, and sustainable land management practices.
Capacity Building and Extension Support
S&M applies a cascade training and extension approach that equips farmers, cooperatives, extension workers, and agribusinesses with practical skills in compost production and utilization, good agronomic practices, soil health management, climate-smart agriculture, post-harvest handling, enterprise and business development.
Market-Led Agricultural Development
Through projects such as the USAID CATALYZE Market Systems for Growth (MS4G) initiative, S&M supported specialty coffee farmers to improve quality, productivity, and market competitiveness. The intervention initially engaged 150 producers and later expanded to include 300 women coffee producers through targeted technical assistance and market linkage support.
Organic Agricultural Inputs
S&M is introducing environmentally friendly agricultural inputs designed to reduce dependence on synthetic chemicals and improve long-term soil and ecosystem health.
Integrated Regenerative Agriculture Model
We are currently developing an integrated regenerative agriculture platform that combines commercial production, farmer integration, circular economy systems, clean energy technologies, and climate-smart agriculture.
